Est. 7:2

Esther 7:2 And on the second day, as they were drinking wine after the feast, the king again said to Esther, “What is your wish, Queen Esther? It shall be granted you. And what is your request? Even to the half of my kingdom, it shall be fulfilled.”

This was it – a do or die moment in the life of Queen Esther. Just like the day before (5:6), the king waited until after they were finished eating and while they were drinking to ask her this direct question. You can only imagine, given the day they all had, that the king would no longer be interested in daily picnics. Esther knew that this was her moment and that she had to speak.

Thus, knowing that the Jewish people had fasted on her behalf (4:15-17) and hoping that her husband would make good on his promise to give her whatever she asked for, Esther gave him her response beginning in the next verse.
