Esther 8:7 Then King Ahasuerus said to Queen Esther and to Mordecai the Jew, “Behold, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and they have hanged him on the gallows, because he intended to lay hands on the Jews.

After listening to his wife and hearing her plea, the king responded. He reminded them both that he had given Queen Esther full jurisdiction over the house of Haman who had just been hanged on the gallows because he sought to do harm to the Jewish people. Now, this was not entirely truthful on the king’s part since he had no problem with Haman committing genocide before Esther’s nationality was discovered (cf. 3:8-11). However, given the fact that the queen was indeed Jewish and thus would be included in the extermination edict, the king did at this time mean what he said.
